I own a 640, 49 Bodyguard and Kimber K6S. The Kimber is my favorite. Smooth Double Action trigger and holds 6 rounds of .357 Magnum. I remember the NYPD had a few officers carry the Ruger SPNY and GPNY. It was a Double Action Only stainless revolver in .38 Special. The model 64 NY-1 was most popular with officers. The 640 Centennial was really popular when it was authorized by the PD.

I prefer a hammer I simply put my thumb over the hammer as I'm pulling out of my pocket and no snags.

You give up single action for a super high grip on the revolver and a smooth pull from your pocket. Real self defense modified revolvers have a short barrel, no sights, no trigger guard, no hammer spur and grips to your liking.

I don't really consider that hammerless. It's just missing the thumb spike on the hammer, so of these two I'd take the one with the full hammer. Otherwise I'd prefer a fully enclosed hammer. If you were to shoot either of these through a pocket you run the risk that material could prevent the hammer from falling onto the firing pin.

Hammerless. 10 shots on target at 90 yards tells me hammerless is just fine for me.
